FAQs

Where does the club hike?

The club goes to many locations in Southern Arizona and beyond. To see examples of recent hikes, check out the hike log.

Does the club do anything besides hike?

Yes. There a numerous events other than hikes, e.g. backpacking, camping, dinners, guest speakers, nature-related outings, or parties.

Do I need experience?

No, although if you have no hiking experience you should contact the trip organizer and discuss the hike. Some may not be appropriate. You may also request a beginner’s hike by posting in the GroupMe, and someone will probably organize one.

Do I need a car?

No!

Transportation is always by carpool, and almost always there are sufficient vehicles to transport everyone. For hikes to more distant locations, carpools will be planned in advance, but for most hikes they are organized through Google Forms and at the meeting location.

What are my responsibilities as a Rambler?

Ramblers is a loosely organized club without professional leaders, and as such the primary responsibility for your safety falls to you. You should make sure any hike is within your ability range before attending, by researching the hike online or chatting with the leader. You should bring plenty of water, protection from the sun, and sturdy hiking shoes as the trails are often rocky. See the hike announcement for more information on what to bring.

How much do hikes cost?

Hikes are on an expense-sharing basis, i.e., the costs of gas plus any admission fees are split among the riders in each car. There is no fee to the club itself.

What are dues?

Dues are not mandatory to participate in club activities.

Dues are $20 one-time for lifetime membership and come with a free club t-shirt that year and access to the gear closet. Contact club officers to find out how to pay.

Who can go on a trip?

The club is open to UA students, staff, and faculty. Trip goers are welcome to bring a non-UA affiliated friend if the trip leader gives the okay.

Who can be a club officer?

Only students, graduate or undergraduate.
