About Us

The Ramblers is one of the oldest continuous clubs on the University of Arizona campus. The club creates a campus-wide resource for outdoor enthusiasts by providing resources, expertise, and a forum for people to meet so the outdoor world is accessible and fun for everyone. Hiking Club activities vary from educational speakers about wilderness camping and hiking safety, to short day hikes in nearby desert and mountain areas, to extended backpack, and camping trips, with the occasional spelunking thrown in.

All club activities are open to UA students, faculty, and staff; as such, we do not require members to pay dues. The only costs associated with the Hiking Club are personal and group expenses such as fuel, equipment, permit fees, and the like. Camping equipment is available for loan to dues-paying members. Dues are $20 one-time for lifetime membership and come with a free club t-shirt that year and access to the gear closet.

Ramblers is a member-driven club, i.e., all hikes are planned by individual members on their own initiative. The more people plan hikes, the better the club becomes; so, if there is a hike you would like to do, then by all means either plan it or request help in planning it by posting to the listserv or GroupMe.

Note that, since Ramblers hikes are planned and led by individual members, Ramblers cannot guarantee that hike leaders are experienced in group leadership or first aid. Members who come on a hike advertised on the listserv do so at their own risk; beginning hikers should not sign up for hikes which are lengthy and/or deep in the wilderness. In case of any questions, communicate with the trip leader by email or text before the hike starts.
